Job summary

Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a K–8 Substitute Teacher to provide temporary instructional and classroom supervision in alignment with Catholic education values. The role supports the mission of Catholic schooling and maintains a faith-centered learning environment.

Responsibilities include following lesson plans, supervising students from kindergarten to eighth grade, and communicating with staff. A high school diploma is required with teaching experience preferred, plus necessary

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college coursework or teaching experience preferred.
• Substitute teaching permit or state certification as required by state policy.
• Experience working with children or in educational settings preferred.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to different grade levels and classroom environments.
• Completion of required background checks and safe environment training.

Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular classroom teacher.
• Provide classroom instruction and supervision for grades K–8.
• Maintain a positive, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, including transitions and lunch.
• Encourage student engagement and appropriate behavior in line with policies.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administration.
• Leave notes regarding activities and completed assignments for the regular teacher.
