Job summary

Maritime Academy Charter School in Philadelphia, PA seeks a Special Education Teacher for grades K-8 in a full-time, 10-month program. You will support the Special Education Department, ensure compliance with IEP goals, and maintain regular attendance. Schedule: 7:15 AM to 3:00 PM.

Reporting to the Director of Specialized Services, you will collaborate with general educators, prepare weekly lesson plans, attend IEP meetings, analyze data, and contribute to a positive inclusive culture.

Qualifications

• Currently PA Special Education K-12 certification or eligible for emergency permit.
• Commitment to urban education and high academic standards.
• Strong knowledge of special education law and compliance.
• Ability to deliver engaging lessons for diverse learners.
• Experience using data to drive instruction and decision making.
• Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure students meet academic targets as reflected in IEP goals, grades and tests.
• Create, review, modify, and revise student IEPs and 504 plans.
• Ensure services align with IEPs/504 plans for assigned students.
• Set up and attend student IEP meetings as required.
• Maintain special education files to meet compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to implement accommodations.
• Provide daily instruction using varied instructional strategies.
• Analyze data daily to inform instruction and planning.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans.
• Maintain a positive classroom culture and uphold school rules.
• Communicate with parents and students via phone, email, and in-person.
• Grade assessments and provide progress comments.
• Collaborate with principal and teachers on curriculum development.
• Attend professional development and two school events yearly.
