John Paul II Academy is seeking a full-time Counselor for the 2025/26 school year and beyond. John Paul II Academy is a private Catholic school in Racine, WI, part of Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. It boasts small class sizes and a nurturing family environment.

Siena Catholic Schools of Racine includes six elementary/middle schools and one high school serving over 1,600 students. The organization aims to ensure excellence in academics, nurture faith formation, and develop healthy students.

Scope and Summary

The guidance counselor plays a key role in embodying the school’s philosophy, mission, and principles. They challenge students to develop their God-given talents and collaborate with staff to foster a professional learning community. We seek an outstanding Guidance Counselor to join our team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with students and parents regarding social and academic progress.
  • Support the mission of the school and exemplify faith and values.
  • Supervise students and address inappropriate behavior.
  • Incorporate faith development into programming.
  • Ensure student safety and protect school property.
  • Respect and sensitivity to diverse beliefs and ideas.
  • Contribute to school programs like the School Improvement Plan, Staff Development, Campus Ministry, and extracurricular activities.
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Perform duties as outlined in contractual and policy documents.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling.
  • Wisconsin DPI certification with License 7054 or certifiable with an approved educational plan.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and database software.
  • Experience in Catholic education preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, warm and knowledgeable demeanor.
  • Highly organized, accountable, and able to work independently in a diverse environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Verbal communication, good hearing and eyesight.
  • Ability to read digital and paper documents.
  • Dexterity to operate computers and equipment.

Work Relationships & Scope:

Reports to the Principal. Regular contact with faculty, staff, students, and families. Occasional interaction with other Siena colleagues. Sound judgment and seeking Principal’s approval for decisions when needed. Teachers may qualify for loan forgiveness.
