K–8 Music Teacher

Position Summary:

This role involves teaching foundational music concepts, nurturing students’ artistic expression, and preparing them for performances through skill-building and creative exploration, with a specialization in string instruments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement the music program for Kindergarten through Grade 8 according to the Core Knowledge curriculum

• Develop and deliver engaging, goal-oriented lessons based on clear learning objectives

• Regularly assess student progress and provide timely feedback via progress reports and report cards

• Create a positive classroom environment by consistently applying MVRCS’s assertive discipline model

• Collaborate regularly with colleagues in the Specials department and assigned Assistant Director

• Participate in all staff meetings and professional development sessions

• Assist with school-wide events and performances

• Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education required

• Previous experience in music instruction or conducting strings ensembles

• Ability to work effectively with students of different ages and abilities

• Strong classroom presence and organizational skills

• Commitment to inspiring musical growth and performance readiness

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to evaluate student progress and determine appropriate instructional strategies

• Strong classroom management and organizational skills

• Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and families

• Familiarity with state and federal educational laws and school policies

• Must pass applicable MTELs within one year of employment

• This is a full-time, annual appointment, subject to yearly evaluation
