Job summary

ReNEW Schools is seeking a Building Substitute Teacher to support K–6 students under the supervision of the School Principal. You will follow lesson plans, maintain a safe environment, and ensure continuity of instruction on days when regular teachers are absent.

The role requires strong classroom-management skills, effective communication, and the ability to adapt to varied subject areas while upholding school policies and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reports to the school building each scheduled workday and covers classroom or student-support assignments.
• Provides classroom instruction during teacher absences using provided lesson plans and materials.
• Maintains classroom routines, schedules, and behavioral expectations.
• Creates a safe, inclusive, student-centered learning environment.
• Communicates learning objectives and gives clear directions for assignments and activities.
• Supports students individually and in small groups while maintaining expectations for learning and behavior.
• Uses effective classroom-management strategies and adheres to the school’s behavior system.
• Implements accommodations for students with IEPs, 504 plans, or English Learner plans as directed.
• Supervises students during arrivals, dismissal, lunch, recess, etc., and takes attendance.
