Job summary

Great Hearts Academies is seeking K-5 Homeroom Teachers for the San Antonio location. You will create a welcoming classroom environment that nurtures curiosity and a love of learning, using Spalding Phonics, Singapore Mathematics, and rich content across History, Science, and Literature.

You will have an Assistant/Apprentice Teacher to support you, and you’ll engage families to build strong home-school partnerships while upholding school standards and a joyful, well-managed classroom culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required for lead teaching role.
• Certification not required for general education.
• All majors welcome.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, and prepare thoughtful lessons in a joyful classroom.
• Provide academic support, monitor progress, and partner with leadership to address needs promptly.
• Uphold the culture, policies, and safety procedures of Great Hearts.
• Communicate clearly with families and foster strong home-school partnerships.
• Participate in faculty collaboration, school events, and ongoing professional growth.

Position Title: K-5 Teachers (Multiple Openings)

Location: Great Hearts Lower Schools in San Antonio

Reports To: Headmaster

FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt

About the K-5 Teacher Role:

• As a Homeroom Teacher you provide a welcoming and nurturing classroom that guides students to build a deep sense of wonder and a love of learning.
• Curricular elements include Spalding Phonics, Singapore Mathematics, as well as rich content in History, Science, and Literature.
• As a Homeroom Teacher you enjoy the support of an Assistant/Apprentice Teacher in your classroom.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
• Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
• Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
• Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.

Required/Preferred Education:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree is required for a lead teaching role
• Certification is not required for general education
• All majors are welcome

US Work Authorization is required.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
