Job summary

Alamance-Burlington Schools Harvey R. Newlin Elementary in Burlington, NC seeks a dedicated Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year.

This role supports students with disabilities in general and special education settings, including supervision in non-classroom areas and community-based learning sites. The EC Teacher Assistant will work Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, 10 months per year, under licensed supervision.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 48 hours of college coursework with GPA 2.0+.
• Equivalent combination of training/experience accepted.
• Must have a valid NC driver's license.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Docs.

Responsibilities

• Establish rapport with learners and maintain safety.
• Monitor student wellbeing and provide supervision as assigned.
• Prepare and organize materials to support teaching and learning.
• Support independence and self-advocacy for students with disabilities.
• Use adaptive equipment and assistive technology as directed by the instructional team.
• Attend meetings and participate in staff development and required trainings.
