Job summary

Alamance-Burlington Schools in Burlington, NC is seeking an Exceptional Children Teaching Assistant to support students with disabilities in general and special education classrooms and in community settings. The role includes following IEPs, assisting with instructional plans, and aiding in daily living and behavior supports.

The position works Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week, with Salary Grade 58 and Exempt status.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• 48 hours college coursework with GPA 2.0+ or 96-hour coursework with WorkKeys
• Equivalent training/experience considered
• Valid driver’s license (NC DMV)
• Ability to operate computer and software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs

Responsibilities

• Establish rapport with learners and monitor safety and well‑being in learning environments
• Prepare and organize materials to support teaching and learning
• Support student independence, self‑advocacy, and self‑reliance
• Follow student accommodations and communicate progress to the instructional team
• Provide supports across general and special education settings as directed by licensed staff
• Participate in staff development and team meetings

Education

High School Diploma
