Newton Public Schools Horace Mann Elementary School in Newton, Massachusetts seeks an Elementary Teacher - Long Term Substitute (Music) to provide K–5 general music, small-group instrumental lessons, and direct grade-level chorus, band, and orchestra.

The ideal candidate will bring strong musicianship, experience with inclusive teaching, and the ability to engage diverse learners while aligning with Massachusetts Arts Frameworks and the district music curriculum.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in music education or a related field.
• Strong musicianship and ability to teach general music and lead vocal/instrumental ensembles.
• Ability to manage diverse instructional responsibilities and respond to varying student needs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use educational technology effectively.
• Commitment to a positive, inclusive, engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities

• K–5 General Music: plan and deliver standards-aligned music instruction.
• Instrumental Music Lessons: nine small-group lessons for grades 4–5.
• Grade 4 and 5 Chorus: direct chorus ensembles; Grade 5 Band: direct band ensembles.
• Grade 5 Orchestra: direct orchestra ensembles.
• Curriculum and Instruction: align with MA Arts Frameworks and district goals.
• Student Engagement and Inclusion: foster an inclusive classroom for all learners.
• Collaboration and Communication: work with colleagues, administrators, families.
• Program Continuity: maintain routines during long-term substitute.
