Job summary

Teaching Matters in New York City seeks an Educational Consultant to coach teachers and administrators on culturally responsive literacy practices across NYC schools. The role requires developing coaching plans, facilitating teams, and guiding leaders in school improvement strategies.

The ideal candidate has a strong literacy background, experience with ELL/MLL, and proven ability to drive student outcomes in urban settings, using Zoom and Google Suite for collaboration.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3–4 years experience as a Literacy coach plus 4 years teaching K-5 or 5th–8th literacy.
• Focus on Curriculum Adoption.
• NYC Reads; strong ELL experience.
• MLL experience / Dual Language.
• Strong content knowledge in Literacy with a lens to culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving ambitious, measurable student results.
• Experience facilitating teacher teams to achieve student outcomes.
• Dynamic presenter; comfortable engaging large groups of educators in workshops and work-sessions.
• Experience teaching and/or coaching teachers in culturally responsive practices and curriculum development.
• Passion for advocating for students and communities traditionally marginalized and under-resourced.
• Experience in urban schools.
• Exemplar skills in technology and facile in utilizing Zoom, Google Suite, and other online collaboration tools.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; well organized; excellent writing and communication skills.
• Superior interpersonal skills to motivate and lead others at all levels within a school.
• Demonstrates deep commitment to Teaching Matters’ mission, vision, and core values.

Responsibilities

• Coach teachers and administrators onsite in NYC in culturally responsive lessons, resources, and activities.
• Develop customized instructional coaching plans based on needs identified through a structured assessment.
• Coach teachers within cycles of coaching focused on key competencies.
• Differentiate teacher support based on individual needs and mindset shifts.
• Facilitate teacher teams to reflect, analyze data, and identify inequitable practices to improve pedagogy and outcomes.
• Guide school leaders in changes to systems, structures, and communications to foster collaboration and student focus.
• Build understanding and proficiency in culturally responsive pedagogy and racial literacy.
• Build trusting relationships with partners and empower educators to grow.
