Our school is a Kindergarten–5th grade private school located in S.E. DC, striving to alter the educational and social trajectory of children from historically underserved communities, preparing them for leadership and service in their communities and well beyond.

We are seeking a Lead Elementary School Teacher to join our team. As a Lead Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience of our students, particularly focusing on the development and empowerment of boys and families in underserved communities. We are looking for a passionate educator who is committed to culturally relevant teaching and pedagogy. As well, we are seeking someone who has a positive outlook, high level of emotional intelligence, and an ability to connect with others and build relationships. A deep love for and understanding of educating elementary school boys is essential, as is working with our scholars in ways that are affirming, joyful, and supportive.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement engaging, culturally responsive differentiated lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Foster an inclusive, affirming classroom environment that values every student’s identity and voice.
  • Integrate culturally relevant content and materials that build student pride, belonging, and academic excellence.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to support different learning styles and abilities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary units and school-wide initiatives that promote holistic student development.
  • Monitor and assess student progress regularly; provide actionable feedback to students and families.
  • Establish strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and the wider community to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
  • Stay informed of research-based best practices, especially those related to teaching and working in urban school settings.
  • Participate actively in professional development and coaching to continuously grow in practice.
  • Uphold school-wide norms, policies, and expectations related to student conduct, classroom culture, school mission, and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field with coursework in elementary math and ELA methods (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of lead classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban elementary school setting.
  • Deep knowledge of culturally relevant and responsive teaching practices.
  • Passion for educating and empowering children and families from underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice in education.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent classroom and behavior management abilities.
  • Evidence of successful evaluations and receptiveness to coaching and feedback.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
