Job summary

Yu Ming Charter School seeks dynamic K-5 English Literacy teachers to join our team in Oakland. We emphasize bilingual, bicultural learning, learner-centered personalized instruction, and collaboration across grade levels with a Mandarin co-teacher.

Positions involve delivering three 50-minute English blocks plus a daily 60-minute intervention, plus SEL and SDL activities. We value data-driven instruction and strong relationships with families and colleagues.

Qualifications

• B.A. or B.S. required.
• California Credential or transferable out-of-state equivalency required.
• M.A. or M.S. in Education or related field preferred.
• Three years of teaching experience in relevant grades or subjects preferred.
• Experience with Google apps and educational technology preferred.
• Experience with project-based learning, SEL, personalized learning, service learning, interdisciplinary curriculum preferred.
• Understanding of Common Core State Standards preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse students, families and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3 blocks of English (three 50-minute blocks) to one grade level and 1 hour intervention block daily.
• Teach Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons and facilitate self-directed learning (SDL).
• Deliver CCSS-aligned and Science of Reading-aligned instruction in English, in collaboration with a Mandarin co-teacher.
• Personalize instruction to meet diverse student needs and ensure mastery of skills.
• Assess and analyze student progress using multiple data sources to inform planning.
• Leverage educational technology to develop materials, benchmarks, and progress tracking.
• Establish a positive, inclusive classroom culture that supports the broader school community.
• Provide access and differentiation for students across proficiency levels and needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to school-wide pedagogical practice.
• Engage in ongoing professional growth and participate in PD and curriculum development.
• Build strong relationships with students, families, and stakeholders.
• Maintain professionalism and meet deadlines and commitments.
• Possible participation in summer program teaching or curriculum development.
