Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain in North Carolina is seeking a part-time Tutor to support 1st–5th grade students with homework and supplement learning activities. The role includes preparing material to review and support math and literacy during the school day, under the Unit Director's guidance.

The tutor will work 4 times per week for 3 hours daily, develop engaging lessons, document progress, and help with program activities across club sites while maintaining a safe and welcoming

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or higher preferred; for clubs with the 21st Century Grant, applicants are required to be certified teachers.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work or volunteer experience with youth.
• Excellent verbal and written communication including facilitation and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of math, literacy, science and related content areas to ensure adequate instruction.

Responsibilities

• Develop individualized lesson plans following the program format for all assigned students.
• Tutor 4 times per week, 3 hours per day, and implement tutoring programs.
• Complete reports and documentation for academic data for K-5 Club members.
• Create engaging after-school literacy games and activities; guide youth in educational programs.
• Foster a safe, positive environment supporting children’s social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.
• Build positive relationships with youth, volunteers, parents, schools and community.
• Track daily attendance and perform program administrative duties; travel between locations as needed.
• Attend programs, projects, and events coordinated by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain.
• Assist with clean up and organization of all program areas.
