Job summary

Catherine Cook School is seeking a vibrant, long-term substitute Spanish teacher to join our elementary teaching team in Chicago. The role emphasizes differentiating instruction and nurturing language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) with an emphasis on cultural understanding.

The ideal candidate will differentiate for a range of abilities from Preschool through 4th grade, use the Comprehensible-Input approach, and collaborate with colleagues and families to support student growth

Qualifications

• Ability to develop academically challenging, appropriately differentiated Spanish curricula.
• Utilize a TPR/TPRS or story-telling approach to world language instruction.
• Experience teaching using the Comprehensible-Input approach.
• Use a wide range of authentic assessment strategies.
• Be responsive to and enjoy students from Preschool through 4th grade.
• Communicate thoughtfully, respectfully, and clearly with parents/guardians.
• Create thoughtful, well-written progress reports.
• Work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Be willing to participate actively in discussions about cultural, racial, and other identities with students and colleagues.
