Job summary

Birch Agency in Chester, SC seeks a Special Education Teacher for a self-contained K–2 classroom serving students with moderate disabilities. Role focuses on individualized instruction and structured classroom environment to support academic, social, and behavioral growth.

Active SC SPED certification or eligibility is required; experience with IEPs, collaboration with teams, and strong classroom management are essential for success in this school-based assignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
• Active South Carolina Special Education certification required or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Experience in self-contained special education classroom preferred.
• Experience with students with moderate disabilities is a plus.
• Experience with elementary students, especially K–2, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs.
• Provide differentiated instruction based on IEP goals.
• Adapt curriculum and assessments to support student learning.
• Teach in a self-contained classroom setting.
• Monitor progress and document progress reports.
• Implement positive behavior supports and effective classroom management.
• Collaborate with general ed, SPED staff, admins, families, and related service providers.
• Attend IEP and multidisciplinary team meetings and PD activities.
• Foster a structured, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Promote student independence and participation in activities.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district SPED requirements.
