Responsibilities

  • Supervise students temporarily assigned to a structured alternative learning setting due to behavioral or disciplinary needs.
  • Maintain a safe, structured environment aligned with school expectations and accountability.
  • Ensure students stay engaged in academic work and communicate with teachers about assignments.
  • Help students reflect on behaviors and develop strategies for future success.
  • Support students in transitioning back to their regular classroom.
  • Provide mentoring and individualized support for attendance, behavior, academics, and engagement.
  • Develop positive relationships with students while reinforcing accountability.
  • Assist with home visits when appropriate to address attendance barriers.
  • Maintain records related to structured student support assignments and interventions.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and families to plan interventions.
  • Reinforce restorative practices, problem-solving, and positive decision-making.
  • Provide follow-up support after interventions to re-engage students.
  • Perform other student support duties as assigned.

Kearsley Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide structured student support, mentorship, attendance intervention, and behavioral guidance for students across the district. This position will work directly with students who benefit from additional structure, encouragement, accountability, and connection to remain engaged and successful in school.

A key component of this position will be providing supervision and support for students who are temporarily assigned to an alternative learning setting as a result of behavioral or disciplinary concerns. The coordinator will ensure that this time is purposeful and productive by maintaining academic expectations, encouraging reflection and positive decision-making, and helping students prepare for a successful return to their regular classroom environment.

The successful candidate will build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear expectations and supporting school staff and families in addressing attendance, behavior, academic progress, and student engagement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Family and Community Services, Social Work, or a related field required.
  • Experience working with middle school and/or high school students in a variety of capacities.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries and high expectations.
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and professional when working with students experiencing behavioral or academic challenges.
  • Commitment to student belonging, relationship building, accountability, and academic success.
  • Ability to effectively support students in a structured learning environment outside of their regularly assigned classroom.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative school team.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision and support for students temporarily assigned to a structured alternative learning setting due to behavioral, disciplinary, or other student-support needs.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and productive environment that reinforces school expectations, academic engagement, accountability, and positive decision-making.
  • Ensure students remain engaged in assigned academic work while temporarily outside of their regular classroom and communicate with teachers regarding assignments and academic expectations as needed.
  • Help students reflect on behaviors, choices, and circumstances that resulted in their temporary removal from the regular classroom environment and identify strategies for future success.
  • Support students in developing plans for successfully transitioning back into their regular classroom environment.
  • Provide mentoring and individualized support to students experiencing attendance, behavioral, academic, or engagement challenges.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with students while consistently reinforcing school expectations and personal accountability.
  • Assist students in identifying and addressing barriers to regular school attendance, including assisting with home visits when appropriate.
  • Conduct student check-ins and follow up with students demonstrating patterns of absenteeism, tardiness, behavioral concerns, or disengagement.
  • Support school and district attendance initiatives, including outreach to students and families as directed by administration.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, counselors, teachers, behavior and student support staff, support staff, and families to identify appropriate interventions and supports for students.
  • Reinforce restorative practices, problem‑solving strategies, conflict resolution, self‑reflection, and positive decision‑making.
  • Provide follow‑up support to students following behavioral or disciplinary interventions to encourage successful re‑engagement with the school community.
  • Maintain accurate records related to structured student support assignments, student contacts, attendance interventions, behavioral supports, and other services provided.
  • Perform other student support duties as assigned.
