Job summary

Clayton County Public Schools is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to provide transliteration and interpretation for deaf/hard-of-hearing students. This full-time, 190-day role reports to the Principal and requires RID certification, EIPA 3.5+, and GaPSC educator interpreter licensure.

Responsibilities include accurate transliteration, reverse interpretation, and facilitation of classroom communication among students and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
• Must hold or be eligible for an Educator Interpreter License issued by the GaPSC.
• Hold RID certification and EIPA level 3.5+ within five years.
• Degree must be from GaPSC-accepted, accredited institution; renewal required for degree if licensure via EIPA without degree.

Responsibilities

• Transliterate/interpret information accurately for deaf/hard-of-hearing students.
• Reverse interpret communication to school personnel.
• Facilitate communication among students, teachers and educational staff.
• Adhere to RID Code of Ethics and plan work in advance for students.
• Communicate needs to teachers and staff; provide orientation on deafness and interpreter roles.
