Job summary

Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta seeks an experienced Specialist, Instructional (FSC) to lead formal and informal science programs for K–12 students, educators, and the community. The role includes developing curricula, instructional resources, assessments, and professional learning; and collaborating with schools, districts, museums, and partners to expand high-quality science opportunities.

Instruction may occur at Fernbank, partner schools, field sites, or virtually.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in science education preferred; five years of relevant science-based experience acceptable in lieu.
• Minimum five years of formal K-12 classroom science teaching preferred.
• Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certificate in science content area; T-5 level or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and facilitates formal and informal learning experiences through classroom instruction, outreach programs, Science Center visits, exhibits, field experiences, community events, and other experiential learning opportunities.
• Provides direct science instruction to K-12 students through standards-based courses, laboratories, investigations, field experiences, Science Center programs, outreach programs, and other instructional experiences.
• Facilitates summer programs for teachers and students, including professional development and academic camps, based on program needs and calendar.
• Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises science curricula, resources, assessments, and program evaluation tools to support learning and measure progress.
• Collaborates with district and external stakeholders to identify professional learning needs and expand educational opportunities for students and educators.
