Job summary

Greene County Schools seeks a school counselor to support students in educational, occupational, and personal planning. The role follows the Tennessee Model for Comprehensive School Counseling and involves class presentations, referrals, record-keeping, and collaboration with parents and staff.

The candidate will participate in IEP/504 teams, maintain confidentiality, and assist in attendance initiatives and student intervention planning. Ten-month position with district compensation plan.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from accredited institution.
• A valid Tennessee teaching certificate with endorsement in guidance counseling.

Responsibilities

• Attend in-person job attendance.
• Implement Tennessee Model for Comprehensive School Counseling standards.
• Meet with each class to explain the role of guidance counselor.
• Develop a formal process for teacher referrals for counseling.
• Develop an informal process for students to request help in problem solving.
• Maintain daily schedule of activities.
• Maintain records of students receiving counseling.
• Administer assessments as required by the system.
• Provide individual counseling for referred students and maintain referrals record.
• Identify absentee problems and work with families and staff to promote attendance.
• Maintain case files for delinquent/high-risk students and develop intervention strategies.
• Provide career, occupation, and substance abuse information through displays and meetings.
• Collect observation data on student behavior as requested.
• Consult with S-Team meetings for appropriate student placement.
• Utilize community resources to augment services.
• Consult with teachers and provide recommendations for behavior problems.
• Participate in IEP and 504 teams as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Attend professional growth workshops and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
