Job summary

Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. seeks an academic and guidance counselor to provide a comprehensive K-12 counseling program aligned with NMPED competencies and BIE requirements.

The role focuses on academic achievement, college and career readiness, and personal/social development within a tribally controlled school setting. Responsibilities include curriculum planning, student advising, enrollment support, and collaboration with teachers, families, and SASI staff.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in school counseling and practicum in a school setting (NMPED School Counselor license, Pre K-12, Pathway 1)
• NMPED School Counselor license (Pre K-12) or eligibility with license issued within timeframe
• Passing score on PRAXIS School Counselor (5422) as required by NMPED
• Knowledge of fiscal compliance per P.L. 100-297, IDEA, and P.L. 107-110 (ESSA)
• Bilingual (Navajo/English) preferred
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification required
• Valid, insurable driver’s license required
• Background checks and fingerprinting per applicable laws

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive K-12 school counseling program (academic, career/college, personal/social development)
• Advises students on course selection, scheduling, credits, and graduation requirements; monitors progress
• Assists with new student enrollment, records transfer, and course placement
• Delivers age-appropriate guidance lessons and classroom presentations
