The role supports ongoing student learning in an outdoor environmental setting, following prepared lesson plans and maintaining classroom routines.

The ideal candidate will hold 60 college credits, or a bachelor’s degree with a valid Michigan teaching certificate, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• 60 college credits required; Bachelors degree or Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate preferred.
• Demonstrated competence working with students.

Responsibilities

• Follows lesson plans left by the teacher being substituted.
• Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes at the locations and times designated.
• Maintains established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
• Plans activities when lesson plans do not fill the period.
• Oversees student behavior and supports the regular teacher's discipline plan.
• Assumes duties of the regular teacher for the day as needed.
• Contributes to the Academy's mission and maintains a safe, respectful classroom.
• Uses technology effectively for instruction and record keeping.
• Continuously seeks to improve teaching methods and interpersonal relationships.
