Candidates must be at least 21, have a high school diploma or GED, and be able to follow directions and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Is at least 21 years of age.
• Successful candidates must be highly qualified.
• Accurately follows oral and written directions.
• Effectively controls a group, independent of an immediate supervisor.
• Previous school-based experience with children is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assists classroom teacher(s) in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives.
• Records test data as assigned.
• Performs clerical duties and assists with maintaining various records and files. Files, test scores, and related records are kept confidential.
• Works with small groups or individuals to reinforce materials introduced by the teacher(s).
• Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions.
• Works with computers to assist students with instructional activities.
• Assists with large group activities.
• Escorts students to special classes, library, physical education, etc.
• Guides independent study and other work as assigned by teacher(s).
• Advises teacher(s) on students’ problems (instructional or behavioral).
• Assists students with disabilities, loading and unloading buses.
• Assists students or an assigned student with breakfast, lunch, snacks, clean up, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene, and wash-up routines.
• Encourages students to continue special tasks as practiced in OT & PT if appropriate.
• Maintains confidentiality of student and school-related information.
• Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
• Performs other duties as required by the assigned teacher(s) or principal.
