Job summary

York High School, part of York County School Division, is seeking an Assistant/JV Athletics Coach. This role supports the head coach by organizing the program, leading practices, and teaching game strategies to student-athletes.

The position requires strong organizational skills, ability to work under pressure, and the capacity to build positive relationships with staff, parents, and students. Salary follows the School Board Pay Plan and is contingent on the season.

Qualifications

• Prior coaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with school administrators, parents and students.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach with teaching the rules, equipment and techniques of the sport.
• Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities as directed by the head coach.
• Assess players’ skills, monitor performance in practice and games, report to the head coach.
• Develop fundamental skills needed for player growth.
• Assist with determining game strategy.
• Supervise athletes during practices and competitions under the head coach.
• Follow procedures for athlete injuries with the Athletic Trainer.
• Model sportsmanlike conduct toward players, officials and spectators.
• Maintain equipment, supplies and uniforms according to procedures.
• Ensure weight room safety and maintenance compliance.
• Distribute equipment, supplies and uniforms to students as directed.
• Assist with listing award winners at season end; participate in parent nights and banquets.
• Distribute and maintain eligibility forms and emergency data records.
• Complete safety training with the Athletic Trainer and uphold nondiscriminatory practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
