Job summary

Albemarle High School seeks a JV Girls Basketball Coach to develop fundamental skills and foster a positive program culture. The coach will work with the varsity head coach, communicate effectively with student-athletes and parents, and commit to daily practices from 4 pm onward with regular travel to matches.

Qualified candidates will know VHSL rules and show ability to train AA student‑athletes, plus demonstrate strong work ethic, flexibility, and teamwork in a school setting.

Job Summary

Looking for someone to prioritize fundamental skill building, working collaboratively with the varsity head coach. The candidate will coach adolescent girls, maintain a positive culture within the program, and possess strong communication skills, a strong work ethic, and flexibility to work from 4 pm until the job is complete.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of VHSL rules and regulations
• Ability to develop and train AA student‑athletes
• Personal skills that reflect positive relations with high school student‑athletes, parents, and the community
• Extensive knowledge of the principles of individual and team fundamentals of basketball
• Ability to organize and prepare practice schedules
• Ability to develop a solid discipline that emphasizes teamwork and good sportsmanship
• Previous coaching experience is required
• Preference will be given to candidates who hold or are eligible for a Virginia teaching license
• Basketball coaching or playing experience is helpful
• Pursuant to state law, individuals applying for employment with the Albemarle County Public Schools must disclose prior convictions of law other than minor traffic violations or juvenile offenses. Information may be verified via work history, personal reference, or criminal record inquiries.

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work

Duties are typically performed in school settings, including the gym and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, and other physical activities will be required. The position requires daily personal and close contact with student‑athletes to provide instruction, as well as regular travel with student‑athletes to and from matches and regular contact with other coaches, administrators, parents, and the media.
