Job summary

The Northwest School in Seattle, WA seeks a Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach to support the athletic program and report to the Athletic Director.

This stipend-only role starts November 16, 2026 and runs through early February 2027; candidates should bring high school coaching experience, CPR/First Aid training, and a commitment to character-building, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Qualifications

• Expertise and experience coaching basketball, preferably at the high school level.
• First Aid/CPR, concussion management training, etc are current (training provided, if needed).
• Successful completion of background check.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with and assist the JV Head Coach and follow the lead of the Varsity Head Coach in planning, organizing, coaching, and developing the program and players.
• Demonstrate the ability to teach skills and strategies associated with the game at this level.
• Model and effectively inspire essential team concepts of dedication, responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
• Generate enthusiasm and pride among students in the program.
• Engage with student-athletes, colleagues, parents, opponents, referees, etc. with respect and positivity.

The Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach will report to and be supervised by the Athletic Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with and assist the JV Head Coach and follow the lead of the Varsity Head Coach in planning, organizing, coaching, and developing the program and players.


• Demonstrate the ability to teach skills and strategies associated with the game at this level.


• Model and effectively inspire essential team concepts of dedication, responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship among student‑athletes.


• Generate enthusiasm and pride among students in the program.


• Engage with student‑athletes, colleagues, parents, opponents, referees, etc. with respect and positivity.


• Philosophical alignment with striving to win while promoting the bigger picture of character, commitment, and team supportiveness.


• Proactively attend clinics and seek out materials to develop professional coaching expertise and effectiveness.


• Work as a collaborative member of the program and Northwest School community.


• Know and adhere to Northwest School, Emerald Sound Conference, and WIAA policies and procedures.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications

• First Aid/CPR training, sudden cardiac arrest training, concussion management training, etc are current (training provided, if needed).


• Successful completion of background check.

Compensation/Details

Competitive coaching stipend ranges from $2,598 to 3,766, based on experience. This is a stipend only position. Season starts November 16, 2026, and ends in early February 2027.

Availability

Monday‑Saturday November 16, 2026, through early February 2027.
