Position Summary

St. Michael's Catholic Preparatory School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Cheer Coach to work with our Head Coach and lead our esteemed cheer program. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cheerleading techniques, a commitment to developing student-athletes, and a desire to foster a positive and supportive team environment rooted in our school's values.

Responsibilities

1. Program Leadership:
   • Follow the Head Coach's vision for the cheerleading program that aligns with the school's mission and values.
   • Maintain a positive and supportive team culture that promotes teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.
   • Assist in managing all aspects of the cheer program, including practice schedules, game preparation, and competition planning.
   • Coordinate the Middle School Cheer program for vertical alignment.
   • Work with spirit programs on campus to create a cohesive spirit culture.
2. Coaching and Skill Development:
   • Instruct student-athletes in cheerleading techniques, including stunting, tumbling, jumping, and choreography.
   • Implement effective practice plans focusing on skill development, conditioning, and team building.
   • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to help student-athletes reach their full potential.
   • Ensure safety by teaching and enforcing proper techniques and safety protocols.
3. Competition and Performance:
   • Prepare the team for local and regional competitions, ensuring routines are polished and meet standards.
   • Develop and implement routines for school events and athletic games.
   • Assist with team travel and logistics for competitions and performances.
4. Student-Athlete Development:
   • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, promoting academic success and personal growth.
   • Foster accountability and responsibility among team members.
   • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and school administration.
   • Uphold academic standards and ensure athletes do the same.
5. School Community Involvement:
   • Support other athletic programs by attending games and events to promote a unified athletic spirit.
   • Collaborate with the Athletic Director, Spirit Coordinator, Head Coach, and other coaches to foster a positive athletic environment.
   • Represent the school and cheer program professionally.
   • Organize and participate in community service activities as needed.

Requirements

• Previous experience as an assistant cheer coach at high school or collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of cheerleading techniques, rules, and safety protocols.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
• Commitment to the mission and values of St. Michael's Catholic Preparatory School.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Background check and Ethics & Integrity in Ministry training required.
