Job description

This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Carson City Juvenile Services. This position is responsible for identifying at-risk youths and providing or referring support services and intervention services.

This is a grant-funded position, and employees must comply with grant rules. Funding depends on grant renewal.

Individuals may choose between the following PERS Retirement plans:

  • Employer-Paid PERS Retirement: $24.5921 - 34.4289 hourly / $51,151.62 - 71,612.06 annually
  • Employee/Employer-Paid PERS Retirement: $29.1854 - 40.8596 hourly / $60,705.58 - 84,988.02 annually

This class specification lists major duties and requirements but is not exhaustive. Incumbents may perform other job-related duties and need specific knowledge and skills.

  1. Identify at-risk youth/families, provide intervention, meet with youths and parents, and refer to community resources.
  2. Develop and facilitate groups focusing on self-esteem, cultural identity, and education.
  3. Maintain accurate documentation of services.
  4. Participate in community organizations and conduct education presentations on at-risk youth, gangs, and juvenile justice.
  5. Assist with community supervision.
  6. Provide intervention services to youth referred by courts, law enforcement, schools, and families.
  7. Perform assessments, design youth diversion contracts, and monitor progress.
  8. Teach classes on substance abuse, skills training, anger management, and early intervention.
  9. Assist in program design, data collection, evaluation, and reporting.
  10. Refer youth and families to community services.
  11. Provide community education on youth and family topics.
  12. Maintain records and ensure data accuracy.
  13. Track grants, including Targeted Case Management duties.
  14. Engage in program development and participate in multi-agency meetings.

To perform this job successfully, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, criminal justice, human services, or related field, or equivalent experience. Must be 21 at hire.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CPR certification within six months of hire
Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of laws governing juvenile offenders, juvenile behavioral patterns, crisis intervention, applicable laws, Microsoft Office, office practices, and basic math.

Skills in planning, organizing, supervising, data analysis, record-keeping, discipline, report writing, policy analysis, and effective communication.

Supervision

Under general supervision, with assigned objectives and work methods, with periodic reviews for compliance.

Physical Demands & Environment

Office and field work, travel, public contact, computer use, and external environment exposure. May involve supervising community service work.

Conditions of Employment
  • Probationary period of 12 months.
  • Maintenance of licenses and certificates.
  • Availability for emergency work and possible non-traditional hours.
  • Completion of Incident Command System training may be required.
  • Background check and drug screening are mandatory.
  • Participation in E-Verify and compliance with employment verification laws.
