Job summary

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Juvenile Probation Parole Specialist II in the Dekalb MSC & HITS in Decatur, GA to support rehabilitation for youth on probation or in custody. Qualifications

• Associates degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of job-related experience in a social services delivery setting; or four (4) years of direct case management experience with offenders and their families; or two (2) years at the lower-level Juv. Probation/Parole Spec 1 or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Interview probationers and parolees regularly to evaluate progress and ensure compliance with probation contracts and rehabilitation plans.
• Recommend remedial action or initiate court action for non-compliance.
• Administer drug and alcohol tests, including random screens, to verify treatment program compliance.
• Prepare and maintain case folders for assigned offenders.
• Discuss factors like drug use and anger management with offenders.
• Conduct pre-hearing investigations and testify in court.
• Inform offenders of conditional release requirements such as visits and restitution.
• Write reports describing offenders’ progress and evaluate their outcomes.
• Investigate legal issues and counsel on substance abuse treatment needs.
• Supervise community-based sentences and conduct field visits for supervision.
