Job summary

The Personnel Board of Jefferson County is seeking a Probation Officer for its Family Court Department to supervise juvenile offenders assigned to court-ordered supervision. The role includes interviews, home visits, risk assessments, court testimony, and collaboration with mental health professionals.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities and operates across detention centers, offices, courtrooms, schools, and clients’ residences, with a comprehensive benefits package and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with eligibility for probation-related credentials.
• Aged 21 or older and no felony convictions involving force or violence.
• Willing to undergo criminal background check and Alabama Abuse and Neglect check.

Responsibilities

• Performs day-to-day administrative tasks such as documentation and processing paperwork to ensure department efficiency.
• Completes intake procedures for new juvenile cases by interviewing involved parties and conducting social interviews.
• Engages in professional development and stays informed about practices, rules, and laws.
• Supervises juveniles through contact, home/site visits, and coordination with agencies to ensure court compliance.
• Serves court summons and testimonies to notify juveniles of dates and procedures.
• Monitors restitution payments and processes related paperwork.
• Maintains licenses and CEUs; collaborates with mental health professionals, attorneys, and school officials.
• Refers juveniles to agencies and community resources to assist with court orders and program adherence.
