Job summary

The State of Alaska is recruiting for a Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 in Kotzebue, serving the Kotzebue District Probation Office. This flexibly staffed, full-time role involves supervising juvenile offenders across Kotzebue and outlying villages, conducting assessments, and coordinating with courts and service providers to support youth rehabilitation.

Ideal candidates will have experience in juvenile justice, strong communication, and the ability to travel and cover on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Experience in juvenile probation, juvenile offender supervision, or related court-ordered supervision.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work with families and communities.
• Ability to travel to remote villages and respond to after-hours on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Supervise caseload of juvenile offenders and ensure compliance with court orders and probation terms.
• Conduct comprehensive risk/needs assessments to determine intervention strategies.
• Provide counseling and guidance to juveniles and families to promote rehabilitation.
• Monitor youth activities, conduct home visits, and report progress to the court.
• Collaborate with legal, social services, and community organizations to implement intervention plans.
