Job summary

Linn County in Cedar Rapids, IA, is seeking a Youth Detention Worker II to supervise residents at the Juvenile Detention Center. The role includes ensuring safety, supporting positive behavior, and conducting intake assessments for new residents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in care, counseling, and management of youth.
• Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, sociology, criminal justice or related field with 1 year of relevant experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Supervises youth in the Juvenile Detention Center.
• Assesses psychological, physical, and emotional needs of youth.
• Conducts intake activities and interviews to obtain required information.
• Maintains security and safety of residents at all times.
• Organizes structured daily activities based on group dynamics and individual needs.
• Promotes positive behavior through relationship building and professional intervention.
• May restrain residents for safety, including mechanical restraints when necessary.
• Dispenses medication to youth as needed.
• Observes and records behavior for program planning and court reports.
