Job summary

Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri seeks a paralegal to assist attorneys in juvenile law matters, including delinquency, abuse/neglect, adoption and termination cases. You will prepare pleadings, subpoenas, and filings, obtain records, and coordinate with agencies across the Kansas City metro area.

You will analyze evidence, organize case files, draft legal documents, and support hearings and trials, with supervision from managing attorneys. Travel to partner agencies may be required.

Qualifications

• Possession of CLA or paralegal designation or ABA-approved program.
• Graduate of ABA-approved or equivalent paralegal studies with relevant in-house training.
• Alternate pathways require in-house training as a paralegal and coursework equivalence.
• An associate’s degree in a related field meets minimum education options.
• Three years of law-related experience under attorney supervision are acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Organize and maintain casefiles in paper and electronic formats.
• Analyze evidence and prepare pleadings, subpoenas, and record requests.
• Draft and e-file exhibits, witness lists, discovery requests, and briefs.
• Summarize records and coordinate with agencies to obtain records.
• Assist attorneys with witness preparation and trial logistics.
• Attend court hearings as needed and manage calendars with deadlines.
