This posting is for District 13 (Brunswick County) located in the Central Region of North Carolina.

Job duties for this position require driving a state vehicle. A valid driver’s license must be obtained by date of hire.

What are the duties of a Juvenile Court Counselor?

NEW STEP PAY PLAN!

Juvenile Court Counselors enjoy annual salary increases with a step pay plan! Your initial salary is based on your total months of related education and experience above the minimum requirements for this position (Master's degree and 12 months or Bachelor's degree and 24 months). Please list all work experience to receive maximum credit. This will help determine the correct salary and step for potential candidates. Candidates will only receive credit for experience documented on the state application. Once hired, your pay will continue to increase as you gain more related experience up to step 6, and you may also qualify for other promotional opportunities. There are many opportunities for advancement within Juvenile Justice!

Salary steps are based on months of related education and experience above the minimum requirement, ranging from $45,422 to $66,278.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with on-call hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis. Flexibility is required to meet the needs of juveniles and their families.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applicants must meet the minimum education and experience requirements, including documented work history and education on the application. Supplemental questions must reference your experience. Ensure your application is complete to maximize your qualifications and salary potential.

Qualifications include experience with adolescent development strategies, case management, and addressing factors contributing to juvenile delinquency. Management preferences include public speaking, counseling approaches, and system of care experience.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree and 1 year of relevant experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience.

Applicants for Juvenile Justice Officer roles must meet additional training and certification standards, including passing a comprehensive background check, drug screening, psychological and physical tests, and attending a 4-week training program.

Additional documentation, such as transcripts, military service records, and background checks, are required for specific preferences and eligibility.
