Job summary

State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant at the Dekalb Regional Youth Detention Center in Decatur. You will supervise staff, manage youth safety, and ensure compliance with DJJ policies while maintaining professional conduct and empathy.

The role requires a High school diploma or GED, six months of related experience, and timely completion of Leadership Core courses plus Georgia POST certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Must complete Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within six months.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification within six months.
• Background checks and reference checks will be conducted.

Responsibilities

• Custody, security, and care of youth per DJJ policies.
• Provide guidance and structure to promote safety and rehabilitation.
• Supervise and direct subordinate staff and assist shift supervisor.
• Prepare administrative paperwork and maintain records.
• Inspect and maintain security equipment and technology to support safety.
