Job summary

State of Indiana’s Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility seeks an experienced mental health professional to assess, plan, and guide treatment for incarcerated youth. About Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility

Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility is a maximum‑security facility located in Pendleton, Indiana, with 391 beds for incarcerated juvenile males. The facility includes multiple general population housing complexes, an admission and orientation unit, and a secure housing area. Its campus‑style layout includes medical services, food and laundry operations, indoor recreation areas, a chapel, and Providence Jr./Sr. High School. Outdoor recreation areas include fields, courts, and a running track. The perimeter is monitored 24/7 to ensure safety. Role Overview

Your work will be performed within the guidelines established by the Department of Correction and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards. Guidelines are generally applicable, but you must use judgment in dealing with unpredictable actions or unusual situations. Judgment is also necessary in the development of appropriate lesson plans, and to meet course objectives. The work is broad in scope and involves many variables when dealing with the unique problems of individual students who may be dealing with physical and/or mental disabilities. The supervisor does not issue specific instructions before the course of work but discusses the general objectives of the course to be taught and of the educational mission of the institution. The supervisor may also offer suggestions related to the preparation of lesson plans or solutions to unique problems. Work is reviewed on a regular interval by the supervisor for compliance with the laws, regulations, procedures, and standards. You will have full responsibility for many non‑routine decisions in determining student progress and methods and materials to be used in teaching. In the event of an emergency, you must immediately exhibit effective leadership. The consequences of error could be extreme if disturbances were to occur.

Salary

A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Conduct mental health assessments of incarcerated youth to determine risk level and needs.

• Establish treatment plans for incarcerated youth to support rehabilitation and development.
• Monitor youth progress throughout the treatment plan to ensure appropriate interventions and adjustments.
• Plan and implement cognitive behavior programs best suited to youth development and treatment needs to promote positive behavioral change.
• Consult and liaise with various social service agencies and institutions to secure needed services for incarcerated youth.
• Document youth progress, attendance, counseling sessions, referrals, pre‑release paperwork, and visiting lists to maintain accurate records.
• Maintain youth information in the Electronic Data Base to ensure up‑to‑date case management data.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

• Ability to establish treatment plans for incarcerated youth.
• Ability to monitor youth progress throughout the treatment plan and adjust interventions as needed.
• Ability to maintain youth information in the Electronic Data Base.
• Ability to manage documentation requirements including pre‑release paperwork, referrals, and visiting lists.

A degree is not required. However, at least 1+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
