Job summary

Urban Institute in Washington, DC seeks a Research Assistant to support evidence-based policy research across criminal justice topics. You will conduct literature reviews, collect and analyze data, and help translate findings for policymakers and practitioners.

You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, contribute to reports and briefs, and help with project coordination and dissemination. A background in public policy, criminology, or related fields and strong communication skills are

Qualifications

• Experience conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with data collection and data management.
• Interest in justice and public safety policy.

Responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews on the criminal legal system, public safety, and justice topics.
• Collect, clean, manage, and analyze quantitative and/or qualitative data.
• Support data collection activities (surveys, interviews, focus groups).
• Assist with statistical analyses using software such as Stata, R, Python, SAS.
• Draft reports, briefs, memos, and presentations.
• Develop tables, figures, and data visualizations.
• Participate in project meetings and support coordination and tracking.
• Contribute to proposal development environmental scans and business development.
• Support translation of findings for policymakers and stakeholders.
• Collaborate across disciplines and project teams.
