Job Opportunity: Full-Time Attorney at Berkshire District Attorney’s Office

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office seeks to hire a full-time attorney to join the District Court Prosecution team. The Office serves all 32 cities and towns in Berkshire County and handles criminal prosecutions across District Courts, Juvenile Courts, and Superior Court, including appeals to the State Appeals Court and Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. The Office also provides services to victims, their families, and the community.

Responsibilities
  • Prosecute criminal cases in jury sessions of the District Court, focusing on OUI, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Firearm, and Narcotics cases.
  • Review case files, statutes, case law, and victim input to determine case disposition.
  • Draft opening statements, closing arguments, and conduct witness examinations.
  • Prepare and present motions, interview witnesses, and collaborate with victim advocates.
  • Review police reports and charging decisions, and handle pre-trial motions and evidentiary issues.
  • Dispose of cases through plea, bench, or jury trial.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school
  • Membership in the Massachusetts Bar
  • 3-4 years of criminal litigation experience
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Salary ranges from $85,000 to $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Full-time positions include a comprehensive benefits package.
