Jurisdictional Consultant Boiler Inspector

This position is primarily responsible for conducting in-service jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels mainly in the greater Washington DC area.

The Boiler Inspector (Jurisdictional Consultant) learns and develops skills to manage, inspect, evaluate, and consult with clients. Inspections are conducted following the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the Rules of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, The National Board Inspection Code, jurisdictional laws, regulations, FM programs, procedures, and instructions. The inspector will be supervised by the Operations Chief Inspector.

Based on experience, candidates may be considered for Jurisdictional Consultant I or II roles.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: BS in Engineering, associate degree from a technical school, or high school diploma (or equivalent), depending on experience.
• Desired: Existing National Board and state certifications, qualified to review repairs per NBIC and FMIC requirements.
• Required: Meet National Board In-Service commission qualification requirements (RCI-1 NB-263), pass the National Board Exam, meet state requirements, acquire a National Board Commission, and certification from at least one jurisdiction within 12 months.
• Experience: Knowledge of boiler and pressure vessel construction, operation, inspection, mechanical and electrical equipment, management systems, nondestructive testing methods.
• Skills/Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge, good communication, time management, problem-solving skills, computer skills, ability to work independently and in teams.
