Job summary

Lakeshore High School in Stevensville, MI is seeking a Junior Varsity Assistant Wrestling Coach to support the Head Coach in planning practices, competitions, and program activities for the JV team.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, knowledge of wrestling, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work with student-athletes. Beginning with the 2026/2027 season; apply until filled.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of wrestling techniques, training principles, conditioning, and competition structure.
• Ability to work effectively with high school-aged student-athletes.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and supervisory skills.
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet district hiring requirements.
• Completion of required MHSAA rules meeting or equivalent annual certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Wrestling Coach with planning, organizing, and supervising JV practices, competitions, and related activities in accordance with regulations and guidelines.

• Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and events.
• Promote a team culture emphasizing character, sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and fair play.
• Assist with communication among students, parents/guardians, staff, and athletic administration.
• Support academic achievement and monitor eligibility.
• Assist with logistics, equipment, uniforms, and team inventory.
• Coordinate transportation, meet prep, and event operations as assigned.

Junior Varsity Assistant Wrestling Coach

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Wrestling Coach with planning, organizing, and supervising junior varsity practices, competitions, and related activities in accordance with MHSAA regulations, school district policies, and conference guidelines.
• Instruct student-athletes in proper wrestling techniques, match strategy, conditioning, and principles of good sportsmanship.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, team travel, and school-sponsored events.
• Promote a team culture that emphasizes character, sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and fair play.
• Assist with communication among student-athletes, parents/guardians, school personnel, and athletic administration.
• Support academic achievement and monitor student-athlete eligibility in accordance with school district policies.
• Assist with program logistics, including equipment, uniforms, and team inventory.
• Assist with transportation coordination, meet preparation, and event operations as assigned by the Head Coach.
• Support the development of student-athletes and encourage continued participation in the wrestling program.
• Collaborate with the Head Wrestling Coach and other coaching staff to support program goals and provide a positive, developmentally appropriate experience for student-athletes.
• Maintain all required coaching certifications, including MHSAA-mandated rules meetings and district training requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of wrestling techniques, training principles, conditioning, and competition structure.
• Ability to work effectively with high school-aged student-athletes.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and supervisory skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and coaching staff.
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet district hiring requirements.
• Completion of required MHSAA rules meeting or equivalent annual certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Preferred:

• Prior wrestling coaching experience.
• Experience working with adolescent athletes in an educational or competitive sports setting.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
