Overview
We are seeking a motivated Transportation Engineer with 2–3 years of experience and a strong interest in Traffic Operations and Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO). This position plays a key role in optimizing transportation network performance, safety, and reliability through the use of advanced traffic management strategies, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), data analytics, and progressive transportation policy development.
Key Responsibilities
Design, evaluate, and implement TSMO strategies, including traffic signal optimization, incident management, active traffic management (ATM), and work zone management.
Analyze transportation system performance using diverse data sources such as Bluetooth, probe, crash, and signal performance data to develop actionable recommendations for system improvement.
Collaborate with state DOTs, MPOs, local agencies, and regional partners to develop and implement integrated and innovative transportation solutions.
Support the development of policy and guidance documents to institutionalize TSMO practices within public agencies.
Contribute to planning and design efforts that enhance system efficiency, reliability, and user safety through technology and data-driven solutions.
Preferred Locations
Albany, NY or Harrisburg, PA (preference for candidates located in or near these regions).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
EIT certification preferred.
2–3 years of experience in traffic engineering, traffic operations, or TSMO.
Familiarity with traffic engineering and simulation software such as Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or MicroStation.
Demonstrated interest in ITS design, traffic signal systems, and advanced traffic management strategies.
Basic knowledge of MUTCD, FHWA TSMO frameworks, and applicable state/local design standards.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
