Job summary

ARES Corporation is seeking a Junior Telemetry Technician in the Timing Group at Wallops Island. The role requires a two-year technical degree or relevant military training, with experience in electronics and NASA timing signals.

You will operate IRIG timing equipment, maintain systems, and troubleshoot failures under supervision. Travel up to 40% and ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance are required.

  • Ability to read schematics and discuss system upgrades with engineering staff.
  • Proficiency with common test equipment and fiber optic troubleshooting.
  • Maintain logs and reports in Maximo; create concise discrepancy reports.
  • Strong computer skills and accurate typing are required.
  • Must be able to travel 40% and obtain Secret clearance.
  • Shift work and safety/quality compliance are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain NASA/IRIG timing equipment and related interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot timing distribution, display equipment, and cabling.
  • Interpret schematics and communicate technical insights to engineering staff.
  • Use test equipment to diagnose and repair timing systems.
  • Manage fiber optic cabling and conversions between fiber and copper.
  • Log maintenance actions and generate discrepancy reports in Maximo.
  • Support Timing team under supervision and follow company policies.

Job description

This job posting is for a position in the Timing Group and is open to all ROC II Bargaining Unit employees deemed qualified, as determined by the Company, to perform the duties of "Junior Telemetry Technician".

Position Requirements:

Two-year technical degree or relevant military training, and experience in electronics and/or NASA timing signal distribution. Experience with time codes, voice intercoms, and cabling techniques preferred.

  • Ability to operate and maintain NASA/IRIG timing equipment, including timing distribution and display equipment, countdown clock generators, line drivers, amplifiers, copper and fiber optic cabling, voice intercom systems, PA systems and ancillary interfaces.
  • Knowledge of modern IP/network timecode protocols and digital timecode transport preferred, as well as a familiarity of basic IP/ethernet connected equipment troubleshooting.
  • Apply technical knowledge and respond quickly to accomplish fault isolation and maintenance of systems.
  • Ability to interpret schematics and systems drawings; communicate technical insight to engineering staff for system upgrades and configuration changes.
  • Use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, frequency counters, time domain reflectometers, and signal generators.
  • Experience with managing, splicing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cabling, as well as conversion from fiber to copper.
  • Maintain up-to-date logs and preventative maintenance schedules, utilizing Maximo recordkeeping system. Ability to create concise Discrepancy Reports required.
  • Possess typing skills and strong familiarity with computer usage.
  • Ability to serve as Timing team member, assisting other technicians. Duties will be performed under direct supervision of higher-level technicians.
  • Ensure Company and NASA procedures and policies are followed.
  • Perform manual tasks, which may include lifting 40 lbs. or more and working at heights, climbing ladders, working in tight spaces, or areas with limited environmental controls.
  • Foreign and domestic travel is required 40% of the year. A valid U.S. passport may be required for this position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
  • Safety and quality awareness and compliance are required. Shift work may be required. Assignments may change or vary.
