Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Professional, Electrical Engineer in Overland Park, KS to contribute to the Power Delivery Overland Park Substation Team. The role involves assisting with data collection, substation design, and documentation to meet industry standards.

You will gain experience in single and three‑line diagrams, grounding and protection, while working under supervision. Travel may be required based on project needs and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• General understanding of electrical engineering as applied in design engineering of large capital projects.
• Familiarity with electrical construction laws, codes and regulations.
• Interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑engineering audiences.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Ability to work independently or in a team to meet objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software and tools.
• Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (AutoCAD Electrical).

Responsibilities

• Assist with data collection and analysis for substation components and procurement pricing.
• Support design work for single line and three‑line diagrams, substation layouts and grounding.
• Provide entry‑level engineering support for equipment sizing, cabling and conduit strategies.
• Verify site characteristics and provide basic technical assistance on design, testing and construction.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, feeders, voltage drop and power distribution under supervision.
• Generate documentation using drawings, electronic systems and field notes.
