Job summary

WHKS & Co is seeking a detailed, technically oriented entry-level structural engineer to join our Mason City, IA team. You will collaborate with engineers on the design of structural and civil projects and support bridge, building, and geotechnical tasks.

This role emphasizes design calculations, 2D/3D modeling with MicroStation and related software, site data collection, reports, and field inspections. A BS in civil engineering and FE/EI eligibility within 6 months are preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required.
E.I. certification or FE exam within 6 months preferred.
0–5 years of structural design experience.
Valid driver's license.
Strong computer and communication skills required.
Experience with MicroStation/OpenRoads/OpenBridge Designer/MathCad is a plus.
Knowledge of IDOT specs is advantageous.
Ability to work in a team and manage workload independently.

Responsibilities

Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for structural and civil projects.
Develop 2D and 3D models using MicroStation and related software.
Assist with data collection at project sites and technical report writing.
Support bridge inspections and construction observation activities.
Assist with facilitating project-related public information meetings.
Collaborate with engineers on building, transportation, and geotechnical projects.
