Job description

Wet Building Solutions and WickRight General Contracting, LLC specialize in diagnosing and resolving moisture intrusion issues in existing buildings across the Greater Chicago Area. We evaluate wet buildings of all types and design retrofit solutions to dry out water damaged buildings and prevent future leaks. We also provide guidance for new construction projects.

Both companies are owned by Bob Kelly, a building evaluation and repair design specialist with over 35 years of experience, who combines deep building science expertise with practical, field-tested solutions.

Role Description

We're looking for a recent structural engineering grad who wants to learn how buildings really work.

Much of our work involves figuring out why buildings leak, where the water is coming from, what damage it has caused, and how to fix it.

Candidate will work alongside owner in the field — investigating buildings, documenting what we find, writing assessment reports, and developing practical repair recommendations.

You don’t need a PE license, but you do need to be curious, willing crawl around on roofs and climb ladders and be interested in solving problems that don’t have obvious answers.

This is a full-time, on-site Junior Structural Engineering role. Most of our projects are based in Chicago, but we do service the North Shore and other suburbs occasionally.

Day-to-day tasks include assisting with structural analysis related to moisture intrusion issues, and developing repair and retrofit designs for building envelopes, roofs, and exterior assemblies, performing calculations, preparing technical drawings and details, reviewing field observations, and contributing to technical reports that document structural conditions and ensuring designs comply with applicable codes.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • CAD and/or Revit knowledge for creating drawings, details, and documentation.
  • Foundational knowledge of building envelopes, moisture intrusion, materials, and construction practices.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical reporting.
  • Willingness to work on-site, participate in field investigations, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interest in pursuing Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or similar licensure is a plus.
  • Experience or coursework related to existing building assessment, rehabilitation, or historic preservation is beneficial.

If forensic engineering, building envelopes, masonry, roofing, waterproofing, and figuring out Why Buildings Fail sounds interesting, we want to talk with you.
