Job summary

Northeast Bank in Lewiston, ME is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant to support accounting systems and processes. This full-time role offers a hybrid work environment dependent on the role and a path for growth within a growing community bank.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent experience, proficiency in Excel/Word, and strong organizational skills. Responsibilities include journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and reporting tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting/finance or equivalent banking/accounting experience required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Accounting knowledge
• Good organizational skills
• Core banking system experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
• Prepare daily and monthly reconciliations, including coordination with other departments responsible for clearing aged reconciling items.
• Assist with the month end close process.
• Assist with general ledger maintenance and integration.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc reporting.
• Assist with the loan sale and reporting process, including preparation of sale summaries, booking gain on sales, and recording monthly income and loan activity to the general ledger.
• Support accounting department with audits and examinations required by the Bank, including compiling requests for the internal and external auditors.
• Support and back-up for various tasks in the department as needed.
