Job summary

Astound in New Jersey is seeking a Junior SQL Server Database Administrator to support, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases while gaining exposure to Oracle environments. You will work with the IT Infrastructure team and report to the Director of IT to ensure performance, security, and reliability across systems.

The role emphasizes hands-on database administration across development, test, and production, with opportunities to contribute to provisioning, patching, and upgrades

Qualifications

• 2 years or more experience with SQL Server databases.
• Basic understanding of relational database concepts and database architecture.
• Familiarity with Oracle databases.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases in development, test, and production environments.
• Perform routine database administration tasks: backups, restores, integrity checks, and index maintenance.
• Assist with provisioning, configuration, and patch management of SQL Server databases.
• Monitor SQL Server performance and identify bottlenecks or optimization opportunities.
• Troubleshoot SQL Server connectivity and performance issues.
• Assist with upgrades, migrations, and deployments for SQL Server databases.
• Maintain SQL Server database security, permissions, and RBAC.
• Support Oracle database environments and RMAN backup/recovery operations.

The Junior SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is a motivated and detail-oriented role in our IT Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will assist in the administration, maintenance, monitoring, and support of Microsoft SQL Server databases while gaining experience with Oracle database environments. This role will work closely with the Director of IT, application teams, and system engineers to ensure database performance, availability, security, and reliability. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to build a career in database administration and enterprise data management.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases in development, test, and production environments.
• Perform routine database administration within Microsoft SQL Server - tasks including backups, restores, integrity checks, and index maintenance.
• Assist with Microsoft SQL Server database provisioning, configuration, and patch management.
• Monitor Microsoft SQL Server database performance and help identify bottlenecks or optimization opportunities.
• Troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server database connectivity and performance issues.
• Assist with Microsoft SQL Server upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
• Maintain Microsoft SQL Server database security, permissions, and role-based access controls.
• Assist with administration and monitoring of Oracle Database environments.
• Support Oracle backup and recovery operations using RMAN.
• Help monitor Oracle database health, performance, and storage utilization.
• Participate in Oracle patching and upgrade activities.
• Support Oracle user account management and security administration.

Base Compensation

The base compensation range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 plus opportunities for benefits. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
