Position Summary

Junior Specialist (Hasenstaub Lab) in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, School of Medicine, UC San Francisco.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Principal Investigator and lab members to support and advance the lab’s research mission focused on neural circuit mechanisms underpinning hearing function.
• Assist in design and execution of experiments investigating audiovisual processing behaviors in mice, transplant‑induced cortical plasticity, and cortical mechanisms of hearing in complex environments.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data, and help prepare findings for publication and presentations.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, documentation, and compliance with institutional policies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and contribute to grant writing and project planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, computer science, or related field (or in the process of obtaining).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, detail‑oriented, excellent organization and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with at least one of the following: animal behavior, animal handling, microscopy, molecular biology, instrumentation, in vivo or in vitro physiology, software development, immunochemistry, genome editing/CRISPR, quantitative and computational analysis.
• Strong background in neuroscience and ability to pursue independent research; desire to contribute to the lab for at least two years preferred.
• Applicants must attain the Specialist rank degree requirements by the time of hire.

Salary and Location

Annual salary: $53,100 – $56,600. Location: San Francisco, CA.
