Job summary

ASM Research, An Accenture Federal Services Company, is seeking a Junior Cybersecurity Incident Response Engineer to monitor enterprise security tools and logs, detect and triage threats, and support containment under guidance in a highly regulated federal IT environment.

You will perform Tier 1 alert triage, document investigations, and collaborate with IT, operations, and risk teams to enhance detection and response capabilities while following established SOPs and playbooks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT/CS/Cybersecurity or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 0–3 years of experience in cybersecurity, IT operations, or related technical roles with exposure to security monitoring and incident triage.
• Foundational understanding of cybersecurity concepts, common attack techniques, and the SOC role in detection and response.
• Hands-on familiarity with security tools such as SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, or vulnerability scanners.
• Active SECRET clearance or ability to obtain and maintain required clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor SIEM and security tooling to review events and identify threats.
• Perform Tier 1 alert triage by validating context and generating well-documented tickets for escalation.
• Assist with incident response activities, including gathering evidence and supporting containment and recovery under guidance of senior analysts.
• Document investigations with timelines, data sources reviewed, actions taken, and handoffs for audit.
• Maintain familiarity with common security technologies and interpret alerts within SOC tools.
• Follow SOC SOPs and playbooks, and contribute to improvements as detections mature.
• Support tuning of rules, use cases, and dashboards to reduce noise and improve visibility.
• Collaborate with IT, operations, and risk teams to align monitoring with policies.
