Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, Hazel, WRH

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trauma Unit at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on a permanent basis, working within an established nursing service. The ideal candidates will develop their skills to work expertly to optimise patient care and must be team players who can collaborate closely with the ward team to promote excellence in patient care.

Main duties of the job
- Work according to the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines, including the 6 Cs, as a named nurse or key worker for a defined group of patients, taking responsibility for:
- The assessment of care and health education needs.
- The development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes, including discharge planning.
Demonstrate experience and skills in:
- Clinical Practice
- Facilitation and teaching
- Management
- Ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in preceptorship programmes and act as a facilitator, mentor, preceptor, or role model to less experienced staff.
- Provide supervision, support, and education to junior staff, unqualified staff, and students.
- Develop, lead, and manage a patient-centred nursing service ensuring high standards of care.
- Deputise for the Departmental Manager in their absence.
- Manage and develop clinics and staff within the area.
- Contribute to the strategic and operational development of the unit.
- Support recruitment and staff monitoring processes.

Job responsibilities

Professional Development and Education Responsibilities

Organise and deliver training based on departmental needs, developing annual training plans.
Professional and Clinical Leadership Responsibilities
- Deputise for the Departmental Manager and liaise with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Lead and coordinate the department in the manager's absence.
- Disseminate information via team briefings and meetings.
- Act as an ambassador and role model for the organisation and profession.
- Maintain NMC registration and ensure practice adheres to the NMC code.
- Promote health education and ensure high standards of care, addressing issues as needed.
- Prepare duty rotas, monitor equipment and supplies, and manage budgets.
- Support service development and staff discipline.
- Participate in workforce planning, induction, and staff development.
- Maintain accurate records of training and development activities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse on sub part 1 of the professional register
- Evidence of continuing education
- NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
- Degree or working towards one
- Teaching and Assessing qualification
