Job summary

Volkert is seeking a junior level Roadway/Civil Engineer in Training for our Mid Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA. You will support design tasks, learn from senior engineers, and gain exposure to transportation and civil design projects.

The role emphasizes teamwork, quality standards, and adherence to schedules while developing technical skills in plans, estimates, and specifications. A BS in Civil Engineering is required; FE/EIT is preferred, with 1–4 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 1–4 years of roadway or civil design experience.
• FE/EIT is preferred.
• Internship or prior related experience is a bonus but not required.
• MicroStation/AutoCAD experience is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Gaining familiarity with plans quantities and estimates, developing construction specifications, and coordinating with subconsultants.
• Learning and assisting in development of projects with senior engineers to deliver project work.
• Applying established engineering techniques, procedures, policies, or standards.
• Preparing and modifying reports, specifications, plans, schedules, and designs.
• Aims to work in a team environment delivering transportation and civil design projects.
• Participates in development and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
• Attends appropriate team meetings.
• Adjusts and correlates data, identifies discrepancies in results.
• Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions.
• Applies standard practices to accomplish assignments.
• Understands schedules and budgets to ensure timely completion.
• Adheres to quality assurance and quality control standards.
